What is AEO/GEO?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation) are strategies for making your brand visible in AI-generated responses - ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Bing Copilot. Rather than ranking in a list of blue links, the goal is to become the source that AI systems cite when answering your buyers' questions.

Is AEO different from SEO?

Yes and no. Traditional SEO gets you ranked in search results. AEO gets you cited in AI-generated answers. They're complementary -strong SEO authority helps AEO — but AEO requires its own distinct strategy around content structure, answer formatting, entity optimisation and authority signals. You need both.

Do industrial buyers actually use AI for research?

Increasingly, yes. Engineers and technical buyers use ChatGPT, Claude and Google AI Overview to get quick answers to complex specification questions, compare product types, understand regulations and identify suppliers. The behaviour is accelerating rapidly among the 25–45 age group that now makes up a significant proportion of technical decision-makers.
